Charity Spotlight: EduSport Youth’s Vula Mdantsane Run
Sport for Lives celebrates organisations using sport to create real change. EduSport Youth, a registered NPC, demonstrated this power through the Vula Mdantsane Run, a 1,050 km endurance journey from Cape Town to East London launched on 1 November to raise awareness and funds for youth empowerment.
Led by endurance athlete and social impact advocate Jono Kruger, the run symbolised opportunity in motion. Jono completed the journey while pulling a Coach in a Box prototype — a mobile unit carrying letters written by Mdantsane children to the Mayoress of East London, appealing for support to expand programmes shaping their future.
Empowering Youth Through Sport
Funds raised supported EduSport Youth’s Coach in a Box programme, which:
Creates social-impact jobs for post-school youth
Trains young leaders as coaches and mentors
Delivers sport and life-skills programmes to children
Builds safer, healthier communities
By bringing sport and mentorship directly into communities, the mobile unit removes barriers to access while creating employment and leadership pathways.
Lasting Impact
The Vula Mdantsane Run became more than an endurance challenge — it was a powerful statement of hope, unity, and investment in youth potential. Its momentum continues to support opportunities for young people in Mdantsane and inspire partnerships that strengthen community wellbeing.
You can still support this work by donating, partnering, or sharing EduSport Youth’s mission — because empowering youth today builds stronger communities tomorrow.
